Child playing in sand generic

Gigi and Friends Childcare and Development Centres are a group of childcare centres around the Maltese islands staffed by a team of experienced and qualified child carers. Our Programme of Activities is inspired by the world-renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy of education which is a child-centred curriculum dependent on play and adapted to each child’s individual needs and inspired by the child’s interest.

The Executive Director, Lorraine Spiteri has experience in the setting up, managing and operating childcare centres since 2002. Lorraine is also a trainer in Children’s Rights, Equality and Inclusion to prospective childcarers. Lorraine is enthusiastic about observing how the Reggio Emilia approach benefits children in the centres under her responsibility. Having visited various childcare centres in Europe using this approach she believes that this approach offers the children the best start in life.

All our staff gives equal opportunities to all children to learn and develop to their full potential, while taking into consideration the concept of equity, that is, giving each child what they need and not treating all the children the same.

We encourage frequent and open dialogue with the parents and we ensure to address any concerns you might have as quickly and effectively as possible, and in the strictest of confidence.

The Centres are registered with the Free Childcare Scheme Unit and with the Department for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE).
